Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis star as two jazzmen-turned-drag artists on the run from the mob, who join Marilyn Monroe’s all-female band.
Introduction by Prof. Noah Isenberg
Director Billy Wilder pushes the envelope on the Hays Code, casting Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as two jazzmen-turned-drag artists running from the mob. After getting into hot water in Prohibition-era Chicago, Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) high tail it for Miami, where disguised as Josephine and Daphne, they join an all-female band. Their new life gets tricky when the sultry lead singer Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe) proves irresistible, and trickier still when the mob travels south. D: Billy Wilder, US, 1959, 120m
