Gender Roles in Modern and Ancient War. A discussion between Dartmouth classics professor Roberta Stewart and Women and Gender Studies lecturer Brianne Gallagher.
Breasts on the Battlefield: Gender Roles in Modern and Ancient War, a discussion between Dartmouth classics professor Roberta Stewart and Women and Gender Studies lecturer Brianne Gallagher, with participation by female student veterans.
Using Shakespeare’s play about the Roman war hero Coriolanus as a jumping off point, Stewart and Gallagher discuss continuities and contrasts between soldiers and the place of warfare in ancient Roman society and modern America. They focus on the roles and perceptions of women, both on the front lines and on the home front. Discussion followed by Q&A.
